Vijay Deverakonda discussed the habit of boycotting before the release of Liger. He received criticism from a Mumbai theatre owner after the release of Liger, who said he ought to have taken a cue from Aamir Khan. Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday’s Liger, which hit the theatres on August 25, left fans disappointed. The film has been receiving negative reviews from critics and the audience.

Manoj Desai, a Mumbai theatre owner, lashed out at Vijay Deverakonda’s ‘arrogance,’ and added that he should have learnt from Aamir Khan. He also felt that Liger has been boycotted because of his bold comments on the boycott trend. One of the most anticipated movies of 2022 was Liger. The movie had a strong debut, earning Rs 33.12 crore on its first day. However, the film is being impacted by the bad reviews.

Manoj Desai, the executive director of Gaiety Galaxy and Maratha Mandir Cinema, criticised Vijay Deverakonda for his remarks in an interview with BollywoodLife. He spoke, “Why are you showing smartness by saying ‘Boycott our movie’? People won’t even watch on OTT. Such behaviour of yours has put us in trouble and impacted our advance bookings. Mr Vijay, you are anaconda not ‘Konda Konda’. You are talking like an anaconda. ‘Vinaash kaale vipareet buddhi’, when the time of destruction inches closer, the mind stops working, and you are doing that. Anyways, it’s your wish.”

Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar, and Taapsee Pannu, he continued, should have taught Vijay a lesson. “Mr Vijay, it seems, you have become arrogant, ‘Watch the movie or if you don’t wish to, then don’t watch’, haven’t you seen its impact? If the audience will not watch, see what Taapsee Pannu, Aamir Khan and Akshay Kumar are going through. I had high expectations from the movie, but such statements during the interview had harsh impacts. One shouldn’t do this and never pay heed to hashtags,” Manoj explained.

Vijay Deverakonda travelled to 17 places to promote Liger before its release. He was questioned about the “Boycott trend” at a gathering. Actor playing Liger remarked, “Kaun rokenge dekh lenge. I feel that there is no room for fear, when I had nothing, I didn’t fear, and now after having achieved something, I don’t think there needs to be any fear even now. We have mother’s blessings, people’s love, God’s support, a fire inside us, we will see who will stop us!.”

Liger is a sports movie written and directed by Puri Jagannadh, and it stars Vijay Deverkaonda as an MMA fighter with stammering problems. The lead female actor was Ananya Panday. There were supporting performances by Ramya Krishnan, Ronit Roy, Ali, and Makarand Deshpande.
