For the first time, Priyanka Chopra discussed her decision to come to Hollywood in order to further her career. She claimed to have grievances about people working in the Bollywood industry. Priyanka Chopra revealed she was ‘being pushed in the corner’ in Bollywood. In an interview with Dax Shepard for the podcast Armchair Expert, Priyanka Chopra was questioned about her decision to work in the US. “So how do you decide you want to even put yourself through that? Why’d you decide to put yourself through that and then what was it?” asked Dax Shepard.
In response, Priyanka Chopra stated, “I’ve never said this so I’m going to say it because you’ll make me feel safe.” As Priyanka was filming Saat Khoon Maaf, Anjula Acharia of Desi Hits allegedly spotted her in a video and called her. She stated that she heard the demo and wondered if she would be interested in pursuing a music career in the United States. When it comes to the portion she never discussed, Priyanka revealed that it took place at a time when she was also trying to leave the Bollywood industry.
“I was being pushed into a corner in the industry (Bollywood). I had people not casting me, I had beef with people, I am not good at playing that game so I kind of was tired of the politics and I said I needed a break,” stated Priyanka Chopra. The actress added, “This music thing gave me an opportunity to go into another part of the world, not crave for the movies I didn’t want to get but I would require to schmooze in certain clubs and cliques of people. It would require groveling and I had worked a long time by then so I didn’t feel like I wanted to do it.”
Priyanka Chopra opted to travel to America when the music opportunity presented itself, and while there, she had the chance to work with Pitbull, Will.I.Am, Pharell Williams, and even met JayZ! She did, however, add that when her singing career didn’t pan out, she soon learned she was much better at her “day job.” After that, she went on auditions for acting jobs and eventually won the part in Quantico.
On the professional front, Priyanka Chopra will be seen in the film Love Again and the web series Citadel. In Bollywood, she will be seen in Jee Le Zaraa.
