In a unique event marking the seventy-fifth anniversary of the Supreme Court of India, the critically acclaimed film Laapataa Ladies will be screened exclusively for the judges of the apex court, their families, and officials of its registry. The film, directed by Kiran Rao, is centered on the theme of gender equality, a topic of growing importance in contemporary discourse.

A communication from the administration section of the Supreme Court detailed the special screening, highlighting the attendance of renowned actor and producer Aamir Khan, alongside the film’s director Kiran Rao. The event is scheduled to take place on Friday, August 9, 2024, in the Auditorium, C-block of the Administrative Building Complex.

The Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud, along with other judges of the Supreme Court and their spouses, are expected to attend the screening, which will run from 4:15 pm to 6:20 pm. Officials from the Supreme Court’s registry have also been invited to partake in this significant cultural event.

Laapataa Ladies, presented by Jio Studios, is directed by Kiran Rao and produced by Aamir Khan and Jyoti Deshpande. The film is a product of Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, with a script inspired by an award-winning story penned by Biplab Goswami. The screenplay and dialogues are crafted by Sneha Desai, with additional dialogues provided by Divyanidhi Sharma.

The film, which hit theaters on March 1, 2024, initially saw a modest start, grossing Rs 75 lakh on its opening day. However, positive reviews and strong word-of-mouth propelled its success over time. During its opening weekend, Laapataa Ladies garnered nearly Rs 4 crore, and by the end of its first week, the film had earned Rs 6.05 crore. After 50 days in theaters, the film’s total box office collection stood at Rs 17.31 crore, a commendable achievement for a low-budget production.
