Indian Idol 12 has been hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons lately. The seemingly never-ending controversy around Amit Kumar’s visit on the Indian Idol. Amit son of legendary singer Kishore Kumar had revealed that he was asked to praise the contestants irrespective of their performance. Later, Indian Idol 1 winner Abhijeet Sawant had reacted to the controversy and said that nowadays makers are more focused on selling tragic stories rather than their talent. And now Sonu Nigam who has judged many reality such as Indian Idol, Sa Re Ga Ma Pa said that sob storied are marketing strategies and he feels that they are working.

In an interview with ETimes, Sonu Nigam was quoted as saying, “If they weren’t working (sob stories), it would not be happening so often on reality shows. In the deepest corner of my heart, I feel sob stories are working. It is a marketing thing, and people are not fools. Their hearts are in the right place. I also feel that the contestants in reality shows are extremely talented. They are dhurandhars”.

He further said that the definition of entertainment may vary from person to person, “Recently, I was watching a Korean film and I connected with it because it reminded me of my struggles, but it could be boring for someone else. Who am I to comment on the music reality shows? They are doing well, getting good viewership and the singers are phenomenal.”
