Bollywood actress Ananya Panday is receiving widespread praise for her role in the Amazon Prime Video series Call Me Bae. The show, which premiered on September 6, has not only showcased Ananya’s acting prowess but also sparked discussions around her portrayal of a South Delhi socialite. Speaking with The Indian Express during promotions, the actress opened up about her experience working on the series and the challenges of facing public judgment as a celebrity.
Addressing the constant scrutiny she faces as a public figure, Ananya said, “There is judgment, and people say all kinds of things to all sorts of people. But I have realized over time to not pay heed to that because people will say whatever. No matter what you do, how you do it, they will find something negative to say at the end of the day. So, I think it is about doing good work and focusing on that.”
Ananya also shared her thoughts on the beauty standards prevalent in the film industry. “Beauty is very subjective. For me, it is so much beyond how someone looks. It is about how they can affect me as a person,” she said, adding, “Beauty standards will always exist, but I don’t think it is just about physical beauty.”
Call Me Bae, a comedy-drama series, follows the journey of a wealthy South Delhi fashionista who must navigate life after a family scandal. Besides Ananya, the series stars Vir Das, Gurfateh Pirzada, Varun Sood, Vihaan Samat, and Muskkaan Jaferi. The trailer, which Ananya shared on social media, teased a lighthearted yet emotionally resonant story. She captioned the post, “Will this South Delhi princess find her place in the city of dreams? Whatever happens, a bae-ry interesting story awaits.”
Produced by Dharmatic Entertainment, Call Me Bae boasts a strong production team with Karan Johar, Apoorva Mehta, and Somen Mishra serving as executive producers. The series is directed by Collin D’Cunha, known for his work on various Bollywood projects.
With Call Me Bae now streaming on Prime Video, Ananya Panday’s performance is already being lauded by critics and fans alike, further cementing her place as one of Bollywood’s promising young talents.
