Bollywood star Kajol, known for her powerful performances, recently found herself in the spotlight for her allegedly rude behaviour towards paparazzi at a Durga Puja pandal. In response to the buzz, the actress opened up about the incident, emphasising that while she has her bad days, she refuses to constantly edit herself to fit the public’s expectations of how a celebrity should behave.
In a candid interview with Zoom, Kajol addressed the viral video that showed her visibly upset with photographers during the Durga Puja festivities. The photographers had crowded the front, blocking devotees who were waiting for darshan. Frustrated, Kajol sternly asked them to step aside, saying, “People are standing behind you for anjouli. Please move aside, let people come forward to offer their prayers.”
Her reaction sparked conversations about her so-called rude behaviour, but Kajol defended herself, explaining that her response was not about anger but about ensuring that the religious event proceeded smoothly. She stressed that people have a right to their space during such occasions, and the crowding by photographers was disrespectful to the devotees.
Refusing to Conform
Kajol further elaborated on the broader issue of public perception, particularly when it comes to celebrities. She shared that she doesn’t strive to project a flawless image on social media or in real life. “I do get angry, I have bad days and good days—that’s me,” she said. “I cannot and will not sit down and edit myself time and again for somebody else’s idea of ‘she is a celebrity and she should not lose her temper.'”
Reflecting on the curated nature of social media, Kajol commented that most posts are carefully crafted to present perfection, which she feels is not a true representation of real life. She highlighted that her own social media presence is intended to show her authentic self, acknowledging her flaws, moods, and emotions as part of who she is.
The Viral Moment
The incident at the Durga Puja pandal wasn’t the only tense moment during the festivities. In another viral clip, Kajol was seen warmly greeting Jaya Bachchan. However, their conversation was interrupted by the sound of persistent whistling, which visibly irritated Kajol. Turning around, she demanded, “Kaun hai ye, seeti kaun baja raha hai? (Who’s whistling?) Tell him to stop; it’s ridiculous.”
With her characteristic candidness, Kajol made it clear that she won’t shy away from expressing herself, even if it goes against the polished image often expected of Bollywood stars.
