Actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui recently expressed his frank views on marriage during an appearance on The Ranveer Show, hosted by Ranveer Allahbadia.
He suggested that marriage might not be necessary if there is genuine love between two individuals, emphasizing that people tend to take each other for granted once they are married.
‘What’s the need?’
In the interview, Siddiqui remarked, “[Shaadi] nahi karni chahiye. Zaroori kya hein shaadi karne ki? Agar apko pyaar hein toh bina shaadi ke bhi reh sakta hei aadmi. Shaadi ke baad na bahoot taken for granted lene lagte he ek dusre ko. Ye toh meri property hai, ye to mera hai… is tareeke ka hone lagta hai.” (There’s no need to marry. If you have love for the other person then you can live with them without getting married. People start taking their partners for granted eventually, saying ‘This is my property’, ‘This is mine’).
He questioned the necessity of marriage, suggesting that love can thrive without it, and highlighted how post-marriage, partners often start to see each other as possessions.
Siddiqui further added, “Agar aap shaadi-shuda nahi he aur ap apne girlfriend se milte hein na ap bahot pyaar se milte hein. Kahi na kahi shaadi ke baad woh khatam hone lagta he” (When you are not married and want to meet your girlfriend, you meet them with full of love. That part goes missing after marriage), indicating that the affectionate dynamics of a relationship tend to fade after marriage, especially when children enter the picture.
Referring to movie
The actor also mentioned having friends who are unmarried and content with their lives. He cited the Wim Wenders film Perfect Days, which depicts the routine life of a single middle-aged man working as a toilet cleaner, as an example.
Siddiqui found the film beautiful and mused why he was not like the character in reality.
Nawazuddin’s marriage to Aaliya has faced significant challenges in recent years. The couple, who have two children—daughter Shora and son Yaani—were on the brink of divorce due to a property dispute last year.
Aaliya had also accused Siddiqui of being an irresponsible father. However, the couple has since reconciled and are now living together again.
