Simi Garewal had openly spoken about her relationship with Ratan Tata in past interviews, revealing that they shared a brief romantic relationship during her time in Bollywood. In a 2011 interview with The Times of India, Simi had described Tata as “perfection,” noting his sense of humor, modesty, and gentlemanly nature. She remarked that unlike many wealthy individuals, money was never a motivating factor for him, adding that he appeared more relaxed when he was abroad than in India.

Simi’s heartfelt words and enduring friendship with Tata highlight the personal connection she shared with the industrialist, setting her tribute apart from the many other condolences pouring in after his death.

Simi Garewal, born in Ludhiana to an army officer, began her acting career in 1962 with an English-language film. Over the years, she made her mark in both Bollywood and Bengali cinema, starring in iconic films such as Do Badan, Mera Naam Joker, Aranyer Din Ratri, Siddhartha, and Karz. However, a new generation of audiences came to know her through her popular talk show Rendezvous with Simi Garewal, which aired in the 1990s and early 2000s.

Ratan Tata’s Passing

Ratan Tata, the former chairman of the Tata Group, passed away at 11:30 pm on Wednesday at Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai. The 86-year-old Padma Vibhushan recipient had been in intensive care since Monday. Tata’s death marks the end of a legacy that spanned over two decades of leadership in one of India’s most influential business empires, covering industries from salt to software.
