According to sources, the session court dismissed an obscenity plea filed against Shilpa Shetty after Richard Gere publicly kissed her at an AIDS awareness campaign in 2007. Shilpa Shetty is much relieved that the sessions court has dismissed the petition that had been brought against her in the Richard Gere kissing case. As per reports, on April 3, 2023, the sessions court dismissed a petition filed against an order made by the magistrate court that had freed Shilpa Shetty from the obscenity prosecution. Judge SC Jadhav of the Additional Sessions Court rejected the MRA Marg police’s appeal of the magisterial court’s ruling dated January 18, 2022.
The metropolitan magistrate, Ketaki Chavan, had dismissed the actress in the Magisterial court judgement, stating that the claims against her were baseless and that she was a victim of alleged activities of accused No. 1. (Gere). The MRA Marg police, on the other hand, believed that because the actress consented to being kissed in a public setting, it was obscene. The actress answered by saying she will bring a second lawsuit against the complainant for making up a case, though, and that was part of her response.

On April 15, 2007, Shilpa Shetty and Richard Gere, a famous actor from Hollywood, went to an AIDS awareness event in Delhi. Richard could be seen hugging and kissing Shilpa on the cheeks several times during one scene of the event. The Rajasthan court had issued a warrant for Shilpa and Richard’s arrest as a result of this action infuriating everyone so much. The IPC’s sections 292, 293, and 294 as well as other obscenity-related sections were used to register the case.
Nationwide demonstrations against Shilpa Shetty and Richard Gere’s public behaviour also took place. Shilpa thereafter filed a plea over the matter, and the Supreme Court later transferred the issue to the metropolitan magistrate court at Ballard Estate in Mumbai. Following this, the actress filed for discharge in February 2017, stating that the claims against her were based on why she did not object to the American actor displaying affection to her in public. Nonetheless, she stated that this would not have diminished her involvement as a co-conspirator in the alleged offences.

Shilpa Shetty took to Instagram on March 6, 2023, to provide a glimpse of her Holika Dahan celebration with her family. Shilpa was joined at the start of the video by her mother Sunanda Shetty, her husband Raj Kundra, and their children Samisha and Viaan. She explained in the video that they used to make small chits and write out their negative feelings and thoughts, which they then threw in the holy fire. The Shetty family and the Kundra family use this method to eliminate all the negativity from their lives.
