Acclaimed director Sujoy Ghosh recently opened up about the challenges he faced while pitching his film Kahaani after the disappointing performance of Aladin, a project that starred Amitabh Bachchan. In an interview with Mashable India, Ghosh recalled how initial responses to his Kahaani script were harsh, with many labelling it “bakwaas” following the failure of Aladin.

Ghosh revealed that the setback from Aladin made it difficult to garner support for his new project. However, he credited Bachchan as his unwavering ally during this tumultuous time. “I couldn’t believe why he said yes to Aladin without any hesitation,” Ghosh shared, reflecting on their collaboration. He emphasised that Bachchan was the first to encourage him after Aladin’s failure, reassuring him that he could pursue any project he desired and that he would always stand by him.

“When Aladin didn’t work, I think sir was the first person who told me that you do whatever you want to, I am with you. And he did it,” Ghosh said, highlighting the significance of Bachchan’s support.

Despite facing scepticism from many industry insiders about Kahaani, which centres on a pregnant woman navigating the streets of Kolkata, Ghosh remained determined. He noted that some dismissed the script, claiming nothing substantial happened. “They pointed out that it featured a pregnant woman running through the streets with nothing happening,” he explained.

Ghosh attributed a sense of Bachchan’s influence throughout Kahaani, mentioning that the actor’s song and voiceover featured prominently in the film. “Amit ji is everywhere in Kahaani. They say when God is busy, he sends someone. God must be busy, and sir showed up,” he remarked. Their professional relationship later continued with Ghosh directing Bachchan in the thriller Badla.

Now, Ghosh is set to direct his upcoming film, King, which will star the father-daughter duo of Shah Rukh Khan and Suhana Khan, along with Abhishek Bachchan and Abhay Verma in pivotal roles. Pinkvilla has provided exclusive updates on the film’s production, which is slated to commence in January 2025. Described as a fast-paced action-thriller, King promises to be another intriguing addition to Ghosh’s filmography.
