At 81 years old, Amitabh Bachchan remains one of the most enduring and beloved figures in Indian cinema. With a career spanning decades and countless iconic films to his name, the veteran actor continues to captivate audiences.
Despite his age, Bachchan shows no signs of slowing down, prompting many to wonder when he might consider retiring. Addressing these speculations, the actor recently shared his thoughts in a heartfelt blog post.
In his post, Bachchan made it clear that he has no intention of stepping away from the spotlight anytime soon. “They keep asking me on set why I continue to work, and I have no answer for this, except that it’s another job opportunity for me… what else could be the reason?” he wrote.
Bachchan emphasised that while others may have their opinions on when he should retire, he remains committed to his craft. “Wear my shoes and find out… maybe you are right, and maybe not. You have the liberty to have your conclusions, and I have the liberty to work.”
The actor also reflected on the personal nature of his decision to keep working. “My work was given to me… when it is given to you, answer that question. My reasons may not align with yours, but because the right to express has been given multiple channels of presence, you are heard. You spoke, I heard, I gave my reason for continuing to work… that is me,” he explained. Bachchan added that his reasons for working are his own, private and not open to public debate.
In a powerful conclusion, Bachchan stated, “May those who build them [sandcastles] find a measure of permanence. If it has been built for you and your business… mine is done and it stands still. I WORK… PERIOD. Got a problem with that? Well then… get to work and find out.”
Amitabh Bachchan, who was recently seen in the hit film Kalki 2898 AD, directed by Nag Ashwin, also has several upcoming projects, including Vettaiyan with Rajinikanth. His unwavering dedication to his craft continues to inspire fans and colleagues alike.
