Sushmita Sen, renowned actress and single mother, has always been vocal about her parenting philosophy. Recently, she emphasized the importance of discussing sex openly with her daughters, Renee and Alisah. In a candid conversation with actress Rhea Chakraborty, Sen shed light on her approach to “the talk.”
“The act of sex, I did not have to explain to my daughters. They’re already PhDs, all of them are,” Sen remarked humorously. “My younger one is into biology, so she gets into terms, and I am like, ‘Okay, can we please keep it very generic? We don’t have to discuss the technicalities of it.'”
Sen, who adopted Renee in 2000 and Alisah in 2010, has always maintained a progressive stance on parenting. She highlighted her preference for minimal interference between her daughters and their friends, allowing them to form their own opinions and make independent decisions.
A key aspect of her guidance is ensuring her daughters do not succumb to peer pressure in forming relationships. “You can explore yourself and your desires; there is no problem with that. But, in the end, it should not make you feel bad. That is very important,” she explained.
“Don’t do it because someone told you, there was peer pressure, or friends’ pressure. You have to do it because you want to. The day you do something that you don’t want to, you are already on the wrong path. So, whenever you are ready, you want to do something, do it. Do not lie to me.”
Sen’s open dialogue with her daughters reflects her broader philosophy of honesty and self-respect. Despite societal pressures and expectations, she has never married, choosing instead to dedicate herself to raising her daughters.
On the professional front, Sushmita Sen was last seen in the JioCinema series “Taali,” which also stars Krutika Deo, Ankur Bhatia, and Sheetal Kale. The series has been well-received, adding another feather to Sen’s illustrious career.
