Tamil cinema icon Thalapathy Vijay recently experienced a shocking incident while attending the funeral of the late actor-politician Vijayakanth. Vijayakanth passed away in a Chennai hospital on December 28 following a positive COVID-19 diagnosis. He was a revered figure in both the film industry and politics. The demise of the beloved actor led to a large gathering, including numerous fans and public figures, at his funeral.

Shocking Incident at Vijayakanth’s Funeral

Fashionably late: South superstar Vijay got a million followers within an hour of joining Instagram. His first post was a photo of himself—with a rakish air and a stylishly greying beard—from the sets of his upcoming film, Leo. “Hello Nanbas and Nanbis,” he captioned it. He has over four million followers on Twitter. Leo is an action-thriller directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, and co-starring Trisha and Sanjay Dutt. It releases in October.

Among the mourners was Thalapathy Vijay, a prominent actor in Tamil cinema, who came to bid a final farewell to Vijayakanth. Videos from the funeral, which have since gone viral on social media, show Vijay navigating through a dense crowd of media personnel and admirers. While the actor was making his way to view Vijayakanth’s body, a surprising and unsettling event occurred.

In a particularly widely-shared video clip, as Vijay was exiting the venue, an individual from the crowd hurled a slipper at him. This unexpected act of disrespect towards the actor caused a stir among those present. Vijay’s security personnel were quick to respond, catching the slipper and returning it in the direction it came from.

A Tribute to the Actor-Politician’s Legacy

This incident elicited a wide range of reactions on social media platforms. Many users expressed their disapproval and condemnation of the disrespectful act towards Vijay. However, some social media users speculated about the authenticity of the video.

The funeral procession of Vijayakanth was scheduled to proceed to the Koyambedu office of the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) party, with the last rites planned to be conducted there by late afternoon.

Vijayakanth, also affectionately known as ‘Captain’ in the Tamil film industry, had been admitted to MIOT Hospital in Chennai in November due to a decline in his health. He experienced symptoms like coughing and throat pain and was under medical supervision for two weeks. His illustrious career spanned 154 films, after which he made a significant move into politics. Vijayakanth was a notable figure in both the South Indian Artists’ Association (Nadigar Sangam) and as a two-time Legislative Assembly member for the Virudhachalam and Rishivandiyam constituencies, marking his profound impact in both cinema and politics.
