Bollywood actress Urmila Matondkar has reportedly filed for divorce from her husband of eight years, businessman and model Mohsin Akhtar Mir. The news comes from an anonymous source within a Mumbai court, though the reason for the couple’s split has not yet been revealed.
The source shared, “After careful consideration, Urmila has decided to call it quits on her marriage with Mohsin. She has already filed for divorce in court. While the reason behind the separation is still not known, the divorce isn’t happening on mutual terms.”
Matondkar and Mir tied the knot in a private ceremony on February 4, 2016. Their wedding gained attention for being interfaith—Urmila is Hindu, while Mohsin is Muslim—as well as for the notable 10-year age gap between the couple. Despite the public interest in their relationship, the couple managed to keep their personal lives mostly private over the years.
While Matondkar has long been a prominent figure in the Indian film industry, not much is widely known about Mir. Originally from Kashmir, he began his career as a model and businessman. The couple reportedly met in 2014 at the wedding of designer Manish Malhotra’s niece. Malhotra, a close friend of Urmila, was one of the few public figures in attendance at their wedding. Following the intimate ceremony, the couple paid a visit to the Golden Temple in Amritsar and later completed their union with a Nikah.
Mohsin Akhtar Mir also harbored dreams of a Bollywood career, having moved to Mumbai from Kashmir at the age of 21. He made his acting debut in It’s A Man’s World (2009) and appeared in other films such as Luck By Chance (2009), Mumbai Mast Kallander (2011), and B.A. Pass (2012). However, he eventually shifted his focus to business and is now reportedly associated with Manish Malhotra’s fashion label.
As of now, Urmila Matondkar has not publicly addressed the reports of her divorce, leaving fans and the media waiting for an officials statement.
