Gurucharan Singh, best known for his portrayal of Mr. Sodhi in the popular television show Tarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, is currently facing a challenging period in his life. The actor, who was once a beloved fixture on Indian television, recently opened up about his financial struggles, revealing that he is burdened by a significant amount of debt.
In a candid interview with Siddharth Kannan, Gurucharan disclosed that he owes Rs 1.2 crore, a sum split equally between banks, credit card companies, and personal loans from acquaintances. “I have a lot of debt,” Singh admitted. “I have to repay Rs 60 lakh to banks and credit card companies. Apart from this, some of my good acquaintances have lent me money, so I have to repay the same amount to them as well. Overall, my debt is around Rs 1.2 crore.”
Despite his fame, Singh is finding it difficult to secure work in the entertainment industry. He shared that he has been actively searching for job opportunities in Mumbai for over a month but has yet to find success. “I want to work so that I can bear my expenses myself and support my parents,” he said. “I need money because I have to pay EMIs and also make credit card payments. I still have to ask for money, and there are some good people who lend me money.”
Singh’s financial woes are not his only concern. The actor revealed that he has been on a liquid diet for the past 34 days, subsisting on milk, tea, and coconut water. “I have stopped eating food for 34 days,” he said. “I have seen only failure for the last four years. I am trying to do different things. I tried to do business and many other things, but failed in everything. Now I am tired and want to earn something.”
