Parineeti Chopra has spoken again about gaining 16 kg for her role as ‘Amarjot Kaur’ in Imtiaz Ali’s ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’. How many actresses would do that today, the actress wondered. Recently, Parineeti Chopra won critical acclaim for her performance as “Amarjot Kaur,” the wife of the title character in Imtiaz Ali’s film Amar Singh Chamkila. The actress continued to discuss all the effort she put into playing her role in the biopic after the movie was made available to stream on Netflix. In the past, Parineeti had revealed that she needed to gain weight in order to fit the stereotype of “Amarjot Kaur.”
Parineeti Chopra says only few actresses would take the risk of putting on weight for a role
In a recent interview with India Today, the actress reiterated that she needed to gain 16 kg of weight for the part. She also questioned whether modern actresses would be willing to go to such lengths for a role. Parineeti went on to say that she was only aware of a small number of actresses who would have been as committed as she was. As she stated: “I had to put on 16 kg for this film. How many actresses are really ready to do that today? I only know a couple, only a couple of actresses who have done that – really dedicated, committed actresses.”
Parineeti Chopra shares how she did unconventional things for Amar Singh Chamkila
Parineeti also revealed that she and her co-star, Diljit Dosanjh, who played the titular character in Imtiaz Ali’s Amar Singh Chamkila, did some unusual things. Parineeti claimed to have done it all, from performing live on stages to spending two years working on a single project. She feels that because audiences value originality, she should now take more chances in her career. To quote her:
“Just for two years, I didn’t do any other work. Singing live on the sets – who takes that risk to sing live on a set and let that sound be used in a film? Nobody is confident enough to do it. They want to do it in a studio. So, I think there are many things that Diljit and I both did in this film under the leadership of Imtiaz sir, which are not usually done. That motivates me to take more risks because we believe in the audience, and they accept us when we do these kinds of things.”
Parineeti Chopra adds that she wants to work on the ‘right film’
During that same conversation, Parineeti revealed that she hadn’t been active since April 2024, when Amar Singh Chamkila was freed. She disclosed that she relished spending time alone with her spouse, Raghav Chadha. The actress, though, would much rather return to the sets. Parineeti stated that she now wants to work in the right films.
“The plan is just to do films that really feel right. I have done films for the wrong reasons. Sometimes, I have done films that I may not have believed in. It feels like there is homework for me to do when the audience is going to really get a crazy good performance out of me. It just motivates me to do such roles that require homework. Homework that maybe nobody else can do.”
