Actor Sonu Sood, known for his outspoken views on socio-political issues and extensive charitable work, has recently taken to social media to address a dire situation involving Indian citizens in Bangladesh.
Following the escape of Bangladesh’s leader Sheikh Hasina amid widespread violence, Sood urged Indians to aid their compatriots trapped in the neighboring country.
On Twitter, Sonu Sood shared a video of an Indian woman in Bangladesh describing the threats faced by Indians there and expressing her desire to return home. The actor captioned his tweet, “We should do our best to bring back all our fellow Indians from Bangladesh, so they get a good life here. This is not just the responsibility of our Government which is doing its best but also all of us. Jai Hind.”
His call to action emphasised the collective responsibility of both the government and citizens in ensuring the safety of fellow Indians abroad.
In a related incident, actress Sonam Kapoor voiced her concern over the escalating violence in Bangladesh. On August 5, she shared an Instagram story featuring a post from The Juggernaut that reported 66 deaths in a single day due to the clashes.
Kapoor captioned her post, “This is horrible. Let’s all pray for Bangladeshi people.” The violence, which has resulted in at least 91 deaths and hundreds of injuries, has led to a nationwide curfew, suspended railway services, and the closure of Bangladesh’s significant garments industry.
Meanwhile, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, 76, fled the country amid the turmoil, landing at the Hindon airbase near New Delhi. Hasina, the daughter of Bangladesh’s founder Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, saw the abrupt end of her 15-year tenure as the country’s leader. The recent upheaval marks a significant turning point in Bangladesh’s political landscape.
As the situation in Bangladesh continues to unfold, the appeals from public figures like Sonu Sood and Sonam Kapoor highlight the urgency and human impact of the crisis. The international community watches closely, with many hoping for swift and peaceful resolutions to ensure the safety and well-being of all affected.
