Actor Abhay Verma recently achieved significant recognition with his lead role in the horror comedy Munjya, a sleeper hit that has helped him gain visibility in the competitive landscape of Bollywood. At just 26 years old, Verma’s ascent to stardom hasn’t come without its challenges. In a candid interview with India Today earlier this year, he opened up about his difficult experiences as a newcomer in the industry, including a troubling encounter with the casting couch.
Verma described the harsh realities that young actors face, noting the naivety that often accompanies their dreams. He recalled a particularly unsettling meeting with an industry insider, saying, “Imagine a person in the first meeting itself, you get the feeling that this person is not interested in your work but is interested in taking something out of you or is putting you in a compromising position.”
This experience left him feeling uncomfortable and traumatised, prompting him to return to his hometown of Panipat. He emphasised the importance of maintaining one’s principles and identity, asserting, “You shouldn’t compromise any of those things for anyone, nobody in the world.”

Despite this setback, Verma’s determination propelled him back to Mumbai, where he began auditioning again. His persistence paid off when he landed a small role in Super30 in 2018, followed by supporting roles in films like Safed and TV shows such as Little Things and Marzi. Verma first garnered attention for his negative role in the acclaimed series The Family Man, which showcased his range as an actor.
His hard work culminated in this year’s notable performances in Ae Watan Mere Watan and Munjya, both of which have solidified his presence in the industry. Verma’s story serves as an inspiring reminder of the resilience required to navigate the often-turbulent waters of Bollywood.
