Actor Mallika Sherawat recently reflected on her experience with the 2004 film Murder, which catapulted her to fame but also stirred controversy, particularly surrounding the song Bheege Hont Tere. In a candid conversation on The Ranveer Show podcast, hosted by Ranveer Allahbadia, Mallika shared how the song, while appreciated for its melody, caused a significant uproar upon its release.

Sherawat recalled a particularly unpleasant encounter with a news reporter, who publicly shamed her for the song’s bold content. “The song created such a ‘bawaal’ when it released,” she said. She went on to describe how the reporter, during a live appearance on a news channel with filmmaker Mahesh Bhatt, confronted her about the song’s lyrics.

“He started reciting the lyrics, focusing on words like ‘pyaar,’ and asked me, ‘Aapko sharam nahi aayi (Didn’t you feel ashamed)?’ Directly!” she recounted. Sherawat, unfazed, responded confidently, “Nahi mujhe nahi aayi! Mujhe maza aya (No, I didn’t feel ashamed. In fact, I had a blast)!” She added that the journalist was shocked by her boldness and refusal to be shamed.

The actor further explained that the film’s use of erotica was intentional for box-office appeal. “We have used erotica for box office. What is box office? It is a stimulation, right? Imagine the impact that this film has had,” she said, highlighting the commercial success of Murder.

Reflecting on her career post-Murder, Sherawat expressed no regrets. “Nothing to feel bad about. It has been a great run!” she said. She acknowledged the objectification she faced but emphasized the positive aspects of her journey, including the fame, independence, and fan love she received. “We focus on the good things like independence, on the fame and the love I got from the fans, on the great songs.”

Most recently, Mallika appeared in a supporting role in Vicky Aur Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video, a romantic comedy directed by Raaj Shandilyaa, starring Rajkummar Rao and Triptii Dimri.
