Actor-singer Selena Gomez, frequently in the spotlight for her fluctuating weight and changing looks, has recently addressed rumors about undergoing plastic surgery. The speculation began after a now-deleted TikTok video by content creator Marissa Barrionuevo, a physician assistant at a plastic surgery office, sparked discussions about Gomez’s appearance.

Barrionuevo declined to analyse Gomez’s looks, citing the star’s lupus diagnosis as the reason for her changing appearance.

In the 2023 video, Barrionuevo explained to her followers that lupus, an incurable autoimmune disorder, often alters a person’s appearance and should not be mistaken for cosmetic surgery. However, on July 27, Gomez responded to the ongoing speculation.

The Only Murders in the Building actor wrote in the comments, “Honestly, I hate this. I was on stripes because of a flare-up. I have Botox. That’s it. Leave me alone.” Following Gomez’s candid comment, Barrionuevo pinned the response to the top of a new video and issued an apology.

“I adore you. I really do mean the best, so I apologize if this rubbed you the wrong way in any way whatsoever,” Barrionuevo wrote. “You don’t owe it to anyone to tell us why you don’t look the same as what you did when you were a teenager or in your 20s,” she added. Gomez replied, “I love you. Not about you. I just get sad sometimes.”

Selena Gomez was diagnosed with lupus in 2014, a condition that attacks tissues and organs. In 2017, she underwent a kidney transplant due to complications from the disease.

In January last year, Gomez addressed her fans’ concerns over her health following a skincare routine video she posted on TikTok. The star’s health struggles have been a significant factor in her changing appearance, and she continues to advocate for understanding and respect regarding her personal journey.
