Pop icon Lady Gaga, known for her impressive collection of accolades including an Academy Award, two Golden Globes, 13 Grammy Awards, 10 Billboard Music Awards, and 18 MTV Music Video Awards, recently addressed a harsh critique from her college days.
The singer and actress responded to a viral TikTok video that contrasted her extraordinary career success with a Facebook group created by her college peers that predicted she would never achieve fame.
The group, titled “Stefani Germanotta, you will never be famous,” referred to Gaga by her real name and was made by her fellow students during her time at New York University. Gaga, born Stefani Germanotta, commented on the TikTok video, saying, “Some people I went to college [with] made this way back when. This is why you can’t give up when people doubt you or put you down — gotta keep going.”
Lady Gaga attended the Tisch School of the Arts at New York University before dropping out in 2005 to pursue a career in music. She began performing in New York City clubs before releasing her debut album, The Fame, in 2008. The album catapulted her to stardom with hits like “Just Dance” and “Poker Face.” Since then, Gaga has produced a string of successful albums, including Born This Way (2011) and Chromatica (2020).
Beyond her music career, Lady Gaga transitioned into acting in 2013 and starred alongside Bradley Cooper in A Star Is Born (2018), which earned her an Academy Award for Best Original Song.
Upcoming Role in ‘Joker’ Sequel
Lady Gaga’s acting career continues to flourish as she gears up to play the role of Harley Quinn in the much-anticipated sequel Joker: Folie à Deux. The film, a follow-up to the 2019 hit Joker, is scheduled for release on October 2. In the sequel, Joaquin Phoenix reprises his Oscar-winning role as the Joker.
The supporting cast includes Brendan Gleeson, Catherine Keener, and Zazie Beetz, who returns from the first film. Joker: Folie à Deux is rumoured to be a musical, a genre shift that could allow Gaga to showcase her vocal talents. The film recently premiered at the Venice Film Festival, where Lady Gaga made a striking appearance.
As Gaga continues to break boundaries in both music and film, her journey remains a testament to resilience in the face of doubt.
