Actor Karan Singh Grover has described his daughter Devi’s heart surgery as one of the most challenging experiences of his life. Married to actress Bipasha Basu, the couple welcomed their daughter in 2022. In a recent interview, Karan shared the emotional journey they underwent after discovering that Devi had two holes in her heart, necessitating an open-heart surgery when she was just three months old.
Reflecting on the hardships he has faced, Karan told Dainik Bhaskar, “Life presents challenges, but I’ve been fortunate that nothing too severe happened until we faced a significant issue with our daughter. That period was incredibly difficult. My daughter had a serious health problem, and it’s hard to put into words what she went through.”
Karan spoke about his daughter’s resilience, calling her a “true fighter.” He added, “She has a long scar on her chest that extends to her stomach. No achievement in life compares to what she has endured. The experience my daughter and her mother, Bipasha, went through is beyond anything I’ve faced. I consider myself lucky, but my daughter has truly shown her strength.”
Bipasha Basu previously opened up about the ordeal during a conversation with actress Neha Dhupia in 2023. She revealed the emotional toll the situation took on the family, especially on Karan. “Karan was a mess, and I had to even throw him out of the ICU sometimes,” Bipasha recalled. She described seeing Devi in the ICU for the first time, connected to monitors with a dressing on her chest, as a moment of immense pride and heartache. “Devi is our brave heart, very powerful,” she said, fighting back tears.
The couple learned about Devi’s condition on the third day after her birth. Though doctors initially hoped the holes might close on their own, regular scans showed no improvement, leading to the decision for surgery. Bipasha shared that while she never doubted the surgery’s success, the six hours Devi spent in the operating room felt like an eternity.
