Singer Joe Jonas wants fans to know that his new solo album, Music for People Who Believe in Love, is not a reflection on his recent separation from actress Sophie Turner. In an interview with Billboard, Jonas emphasised that the album, which marks his return to solo work, is not intended to take aim at anyone, including his ex-wife.
Jonas and Turner, who separated in September of last year after four years of marriage, have been the subject of widespread media speculation. Addressing the rumours, Jonas told Billboard, “It was scary at times, and also freeing. I’m not trying to come for anyone on this album. I’m not trying to put stuff on blast. I have a beautiful life that I’m grateful for. I’ve got two beautiful kids. I’m a happy person, and the music needed to resemble that — but also, the journey to get here.”
He added that his focus with the album is on positivity and healing. “At the core of it, if this body of work helps people through what they’re going through, that’s all I can really wish for,” Jonas explained.
Last year, reports surfaced that Jonas and Turner had reached an amicable resolution regarding the custody of their two daughters, Willa and Delphine. Shortly after the news broke, Turner was spotted spending time with singer-songwriter Taylor Swift, who had dated Jonas years earlier, further fueling media interest in the couple’s split.
In a joint statement following their separation, Jonas and Turner said, “After four wonderful years of marriage we have mutually decided to amicably end our marriage. There are many speculative narratives as to why but, truly this is a united decision and we sincerely hope that everyone can respect our wishes for privacy for us and our children.”
Jonas also addressed the breakup during a Jonas Brothers concert in Los Angeles, telling fans, “It’s been a crazy week. I just wanna say, look – if you don’t hear it from these lips, don’t believe it. OK? Thank you everyone for your love and support. Me and my family love you guys.”
