Days after Jayam Ravi revealed on social media that he and Aarti were parting ways after 15 years of marriage, Aarti took to Instagram on September 11 to share her side of the story, stating that the decision was made without her “knowledge or consent.”
Aarti’s emotional post highlighted her dismay at the way the situation has unfolded. “I was deeply shocked and saddened by the recent public announcement regarding our marriage, which was made without my knowledge or consent. After 18 years of shared history, I believe that such a significant matter should be handled with the grace, respect, and privacy that it deserves,” she wrote.
In her post, Aarti also revealed that she had sought opportunities to discuss the situation directly with her husband but had been unable to have an open conversation. Her post suggests that communication between the couple had broken down in the lead-up to the public announcement of their separation.
Jayam Ravi’s announcement, made on September 9, took many by surprise. The actor shared a lengthy post on his social media account, X (formerly Twitter), confirming the end of their 15-year marriage. “After much thought and discussion, I have taken the difficult decision to proceed with the dissolution of my marriage with Aarti,” he wrote. “This decision was not made out of haste and it stems from personal reasons that I believe are in the best interests of everyone involved.”
Although the Ponniyin Selvan star did not disclose the exact reasons behind their split, he called the decision “painful” and emphasized that it was made after much deliberation, in the best interests of everyone connected to the situation.
Speculation has been rife in the media, with some reports suggesting that Aarti’s family, particularly her mother Sujatha Vijayakumar and brother Shankar, may have played a role in the couple’s separation. Adding to the rumors, Aarti recently deleted all photos of Jayam Ravi from her social media, further fueling speculation of trouble in the marriage.
The couple, who married on June 4, 2009, have two sons, Ayaan and Arav.
