The highly anticipated sequel, Stree 2, starring Shraddha Kapoor and Rajkummar Rao, has found itself at the center of a controversy. After the release of the film’s poster, social media users have drawn parallels between it and the poster for Netflix’s hit series Stranger Things 2. Critics online have noted striking similarities in the color scheme, layout, and overall design elements of the two posters, leading to accusations of plagiarism.

The conversation on social media has been intense, with several users claiming that the Stree 2 poster is a “direct lift” from the Stranger Things 2 artwork. One X (formerly Twitter) user commented, “The Stree 2 poster seems to have borrowed heavily from Stranger Things 2.” Another questioned, “Is this a direct copy?” and others echoed similar sentiments, with one comment reading, “Copy or coincidence? What is it? Looks more like a copy.”

Despite the growing chorus of accusations, some fans have come to the defense of the Stree 2 poster. They argue that while there may be similarities in the color palette, the background and specific film references in the Stree 2 poster set it apart. A user on X pointed out, “Even if the color scheme is similar, the background in Stree 2 is different, and it has its own set of film references.” Another fan suggested that the similarities could be a tribute to the supernatural genre rather than an outright copy.

Stree 2 is the sequel to the 2018 hit Stree and is the fifth installment in the Maddock Supernatural Universe. Meanwhile, Stranger Things is a popular Netflix series that premiered in 2017.

The film is set to release on August 15, where it will compete with Akshay Kumar’s Khel Khel Mein and John Abraham’s Vedaa. Despite this, Stree 2 is currently leading in the box office race, having sold over 100,000 tickets within 48 hours of advance bookings.

The ensemble cast of Stree 2 includes Pankaj Tripathi, Abhishek Banerjee, Aparshakti Khurana, and Sunita Rajwar, with Tamannaah Bhatia and Varun Dhawan making special cameo appearances.
