Bobby Deol, who recently stunned audiences with his powerful portrayal in the film Animal, has opened up about his struggles with alcohol addiction in a revealing interview with Humans of Bombay. The actor spoke about the tough phase in his life and how overcoming it helped him grow, both personally and professionally. Deol emphasized that while regret is natural, it’s the lessons learned from hardship that truly matter.
On Overcoming Challenges
During the interview, Deol reflected on the difficult times he faced, saying, “You can sit back and regret everything you have done wrong. But how do you learn from your mistakes? You had to go through all those things, and you had to come out of it.” He stressed the importance of self-motivation, noting that no one else can guide you out of dark times. “No one can hold your hand. I can’t tell my fans how to get out of it because they already know. It’s just that you have to believe in yourself.”
He likened the experience of battling addiction to drowning, explaining how it feels like an overwhelming struggle that many succumb to. “It’s like you are drowning, and people let themselves drown. But I believe everybody can swim out of it. Suddenly, there’s a switch, and you realize, ‘I can do it!’” Deol credited the concern and encouragement of his family, particularly seeing the worry in their eyes, as a major turning point in his recovery. “They couldn’t help me beyond comforting me with their words,” he shared, underscoring the importance of personal resolve.
A New Beginning
Deol’s determination to become a better father and role model for his children pushed him to work harder. His comeback film, Poster Boys (2017), marked the beginning of his revival in Bollywood. Since then, the actor has been riding a wave of success, most recently gaining attention for his antagonist role in Animal, opposite Ranbir Kapoor.
Looking ahead, Bobby Deol has a string of exciting projects lined up. He will be seen playing a villain in Alpha, a YRF Spy Universe film directed by Shiv Rawail, alongside Alia Bhatt and Sharvari. Additionally, he will feature in Kanguva, an upcoming project starring Suriya and directed by Siruthai Siva. With this renewed momentum, Deol is back in the spotlight and showing no signs of slowing down.
