Veteran actor Anupam Kher, celebrated for his remarkable versatility over a career spanning four decades, recently opened up about his family dynamics and personal reflections on parenthood in an interview with Shubhankar Mishra. Kher, who has been married to actress Kirron Kher since 1985, shared insights into his life as a stepfather to Kirron’s son, Sikander, from her previous marriage.
While Kher has historically not felt the absence of having his own child, he admitted that in the last seven to eight years, he has occasionally sensed a “void.” However, he reassured me that he does not consider this feeling a tragedy. “I’m happy with Sikander, but sometimes I think it would have been joyful to witness a child growing up and forming a bond,” he revealed candidly.
Kher attributed some of his feelings of emptiness to the busy lives of his family members. After turning 50, he noticed that both Kirron and Sikander became increasingly absorbed in their respective commitments, contributing to his sense of longing. “I had been extremely busy with work for much of my life, and it’s only now that I’ve started to feel this void,” he said.
Through his work with The Anupam Kher Foundation, which supports children’s education and well-being, Kher has gained insights into parenting and has often reflected on what having his own children might have been like. Despite the occasional feelings of loss, he emphasized that he doesn’t dwell on it negatively, though he sometimes finds himself envious when observing his friends’ children.
It was also revealed that Anupam and Kirron had attempted to have a child together but faced challenges, even seeking medical assistance to no avail. Anupam was previously married to actress Madhumati Kapoor, while Kirron was married to Gautam Berry.
