Actor Anil Kapoor has taken a stand against endorsing paan masala brands, joining fellow stars like Allu Arjun, Kartik Aaryan, and Yash in rejecting lucrative offers for such advertisements. According to Pinkvilla, Kapoor turned down a deal reportedly worth ₹10 crore, stating, “He believes he has a responsibility towards his fans.” This decision comes in the wake of criticism faced by other Bollywood icons, including Akshay Kumar, Ajay Devgn, and Shah Rukh Khan, for endorsing similar products.
Kapoor’s choice reflects a growing awareness among actors about the potential health risks associated with paan masala and tobacco products. “Anil feels strongly about not endorsing products that could harm public health, regardless of the monetary compensation,” a source revealed.
In recent months, the trend of actors rejecting endorsements has gained momentum. Kartik Aaryan, during an interview with The Lallantop, disclosed that he has refused multiple offers from supari and paan masala brands, deeming it “wrong.” Aaryan, who is currently promoting Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, expressed his desire to avoid associations that don’t align with his values.
Allu Arjun has also been vocal about his refusal to endorse tobacco and paan brands. He reportedly turned down a significant offer last year, stating that he was uncomfortable promoting products that don’t align with his lifestyle. Following the success of *Pushpa*, he declined a substantial deal from a tobacco company, affirming his stance against endorsing harmful products. Arjun will next be seen in Pushpa: The Rule, set to release on December 6.
Similarly, Yash rejected a multi-crore deal for a paan masala brand last year, emphasizing the importance of associating with brands that resonate with his values. His management stated that they aim to deliver the right message to fans and followers.
Notably, Smriti Irani has also shared her experience, revealing that she turned down a lucrative paan masala advertisement despite facing financial challenges. “I knew families were watching, youngsters watching. I said no, contentiously,” she stated, reinforcing the ethical responsibility of public figures.
Other actors like John Abraham and Ammy Virk have echoed similar sentiments, vowing never to endorse paan masala brands. Abraham condemned such endorsements, calling them akin to promoting harmful products.
The recent shift among Bollywood actors reflects a growing consciousness regarding health and ethical responsibilities in advertising, setting a precedent for future endorsements.
