Veteran Bollywood actor Amitabh Bachchan recently shared a memorable anecdote from his life involving the late pop icon Michael Jackson. On an episode of Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) season 16, Bachchan spoke about his first encounter with the legendary singer, which happened by chance in New York.
While interacting with the esteemed guests on the show, Padma Shri awardees Dr. Abhay and Dr. Rani Bang, the conversation took an interesting turn when Amitabh asked Rani about her favorite singer.
Without hesitation, she named Michael Jackson. She also mentioned having heard about Amitabh’s meeting with Jackson and asked him to share the details.
Bachchan described the event as an unexpected yet unforgettable moment. “I was staying at a hotel in New York when, one day, there was a knock at my door. When I opened it, I was stunned to see Michael Jackson standing outside,” he recalled. The actor confessed that he was taken aback but managed to stay composed.
“He asked if this was his room, and when I confirmed it wasn’t, he realised he had knocked on the wrong door. Later, he sent someone from his team to make the connection, and we eventually got to sit down and talk,” Amitabh explained. Despite Jackson’s global fame, Bachchan described him as “incredibly humble.”
The Bollywood icon further elaborated on a second encounter with the pop star during one of Jackson’s performances in the United States.
“There was a lot of difficulty getting from New York to the venue,” Bachchan said. When they reached the hotel, they were informed that all 350 rooms were reserved for Jackson and his team.
“We eventually got seats at the back of the stadium and watched his show. His performance was extraordinary, and the energy in the arena was electric,” he recalled.
Bachchan praised Michael Jackson’s talent, calling him an “extraordinary artist” whose singing and dancing captivated audiences worldwide.
Kaun Banega Crorepati airs at 9 p.m. on Sony Entertainment Television.
