Vishal Punjabi the acclaimed wedding filmmaker known for creating enchanting wedding videos for celebrity couples like Deepika Padukone-Ranveer Singh and Anushka Sharma-Virat Kohli, recently disclosed that he had to turn down Alia Bhatt’s request to shoot her wedding with Ranbir Kapoor. Punjabi revealed this during an appearance on Shivani Pau’s podcast.
Punjabi explained that he was approached just a few weeks before Alia and Ranbir’s wedding, but his schedule was already full. “I wasn’t available when Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt called me for their wedding,” Punjabi said. “A lot of these celebrities call me two weeks before their wedding because it’s hush-hush and nobody can know.”
Punjabi further elaborated on the challenges of accommodating last-minute requests from high-profile clients. “The downside is… I am not available for most of them. I have never cancelled a wedding to cover a celebrity’s wedding,” he stated. “I didn’t do Alia and Ranbir’s wedding because I was booked to do a wedding in London for a very beautiful, lovely bride. I wouldn’t change that for the world even now. She was gorgeous and it was a beautiful experience. Ranbir and Alia would have gotten a nice wedding video.”
Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor celebrated their wedding on April 14, 2022, at their residence in Mumbai. The event was kept intimate, and attended by close friends and family members. Their wedding was eventually captured by Siddharth Sharma, Founder of House On The Clouds.
Punjabi’s candid revelation highlights the often behind-the-scenes challenges faced by sought-after professionals in the wedding industry, especially when dealing with the demands and secrecy surrounding celebrity events. While fans may have missed out on a “Wedding Filmer” masterpiece, the event was still beautifully documented by another talented filmmaker.
