Renowned singer Adnan Sami is set to make a long-awaited return to playback singing after a nine-year hiatus. Sami, known for his soulful voice, will lend his vocals to two upcoming films, Kasoor and Vicky Vidya Ka Woh Wala Video. His last playback song, Bhar Do Jholi Meri from the 2015 blockbuster Bajrangi Bhaijaan, remains one of his most iconic tracks.

Sami, who took time off from playback singing, recently shared the reasons behind his break. In an interview with Hindustan Times, he explained that his hiatus was not a planned decision but a result of needing time for personal rejuvenation. “It was not a calculated move but something that sort of happened. I primarily needed a bit of time to myself to recuperate, rejuvenate, and be receptive to new music,” he said.

Reflecting on the gap between projects, Sami added, “You don’t actually realise that it’s been such a gap because time flies at a ferocious pace. It seems like only yesterday that Bajrangi Bhaijaan happened and I sang Bhar Do Jholi.”

Excited for New Projects

The singer expressed his enthusiasm about returning to the recording studio. Despite being occupied with global concerts, Sami is eager to re-engage with playback singing. “I am happy to be getting back into the recording phase and am doing a lot of new stuff for films as well as independent music, which has been a very important part of my life,” he said.

Sami’s return has generated excitement among fans and industry professionals alike, with his voice poised to once again captivate listeners.

An Emotional Approach to Music

Sami, who has been in the music industry for 35 years, reflected on his artistic journey. Despite his long career, the singer emphasized that his discography, though diverse, may not be as extensive as some might expect. “My approach to music is emotional. I don’t look at it as business—it is passion for me,” he explained. His commitment to quality over quantity is a hallmark of his career, and his forthcoming work promises to reflect that same dedication.

Last month, Sami celebrated his 53rd birthday with a star-studded bash, attended by fellow musicians such as Sonu Nigam, Shaan, and Shankar Mahadevan. The celebration marked another milestone in his enduring musical legacy.
