Indian comedian and actor Vir Das is set to make history this November as the first Indian to host the prestigious International Emmy Awards. Das, known for his sharp humor and versatile acting, announced his role as the event’s host on social media, sparking excitement among fans and industry peers. The 2024 International Emmy Awards will be held in New York City on November 25.

In a recent Instagram post, Das shared that he plans to wear “something Indian from home” for the occasion, breaking away from the trend of choosing established designers. Instead, the actor is offering an exciting opportunity for emerging designers to create his outfit for the event. He encouraged new talents to reach out to his team via email with their portfolio and designs.

“Alright folks. I’m going to be the first Indian to host the International Emmy Awards. I’m going to wear something Indian from home. I’m also not going to wear a fancy designer. They have enough cash and clients. So we’re gonna launch someone new,” Das wrote in his post. He further clarified that the design should be “super formal” and must align with either traditional Indian or Indo-western fusion styles.

In his message, Das emphasised the importance of making him “look good in formal wear” and added that while he would compensate the chosen designer for their work, they must collaborate with his team to finalise the design. “We will pay you for your work, pay for the outfit, and credit you,” he stated.

The actor’s unique approach was well-received by his followers. Notable figures from the entertainment and fashion industries, including comedian Zakir Khan and designer Nikhil Mehra, commented on the post, congratulating Das and expressing their admiration for his initiative. “I’d start a new label just to be a part of this,” Mehra remarked, while actress Lakshmi Manchu expressed her pride in Das’ decision.

Vir Das has been on a successful streak in recent years. In 2023, he won an International Emmy Award for Comedy for his show Landing. Most recently, he appeared in the series Call Me Bae alongside Ananya Panday.

With his hosting role and a call for fresh talent, Das is once again pushing boundaries and making waves on the global stage.
