Actress Rhea Chakraborty, currently rumored to be dating entrepreneur Nikhil Kamath, opened up about her thoughts on marriage and her career ambitions during an episode of the Humans of Bombay podcast. In a candid conversation, Rhea shared that she is not yet ready to settle down and is in no rush to get married, even considering marriage in her 40s as a possibility.

Rhea expressed her views on societal pressures surrounding marriage, stating, “First of all, there is no right age for marriage. Secondly, I’m reaching this place where I ask, ‘Why do you even want to get married?’ Why should this be a pressure only on women? Men don’t feel this pressure because of the biological clock. But now, you can freeze your eggs. It’s a bit torturous, but it’s an option. Most of my girlfriends either got married in their 40s or had children then. The majority did it later in life.”

The actress emphasised her desire to focus on her professional life in the coming years, rather than settling down. She explained that when she compares the experiences of her friends who married in their 20s and 30s with those who did so in their late 30s or 40s, she finds the latter more appealing. “In my Excel sheet of pros and cons, the 40 category is winning,” Rhea said. “I’m 32, and I don’t think I’m ready yet because I want to do a lot of things in my professional life.”

Rhea also expressed her reluctance to add another legal obligation to her life by getting married, saying, “I don’t want to go to a court of law for one more thing. Do I need to take permission about whom to love? If you are thriving in your life, I don’t think a man or being someone’s wife is going to fulfill it.”

Rhea Chakraborty has been in the spotlight since the death of her former boyfriend, Sushant Singh Rajput, in June 2020. She faced intense media scrutiny and was arrested in September 2020 on drug charges related to the case. After spending 28 days in Mumbai’s Byculla Jail, she was granted bail.

Despite the controversies, Rhea has continued her career in the entertainment industry. She has appeared in films such as Tuneega Tuneega, Half Girlfriend, and Jalebi, and was last seen in Chehre alongside Amitabh Bachchan and Emraan Hashmi. Recently, she launched her own talk show, Chapter 2, featuring guests like Sushmita Sen and Aamir Khan.
