Bollywood’s diva Aishwarya Rai had faced a vital backlash for her Cannes Film Festival 2003 looks. In an interview, her husband, actor Abhishek Bachchan defended her, making her go ‘aww.’ Actor Abhishek Bachchan had officially proposed to Aishwarya Rai in New York. Later on, they had gone to Mumbai and had officially exchanged the rings on January 14, 2007, at the Abhishek Bachchan residence.
The couple had tied the knot on April 20, 2007, and in the year 2011, they had embraced parenthood by welcoming an adorable baby girl, Aaradhya Bachchan. Aishwarya and Abhishek are repeatedly targeted by people, though they have always stood by each other’s side, from the nasty comments. In 2003, the gorgeous Aishwarya Rai was the first Indian female actor to be on a jury at the Cannes Film Festival. At the event, the actress had worn two outfits, a neon green saree with a long embellished blouse, and a pink top with an adorning skirt.
Although, her choice had not gone down well with people, and her outfits had become a subject to controversy. In an interview after her wedding with Abhishek Bachchan, Aishwarya had labelled the same and her husband’s reaction to it had made her go aww. Earlier, in an interview with Rajeev Masand, a fan had asked Aishwarya Rai Bachchan if it had hurt her when her Cannes Film Festival outfits were criticised. Answering her fan, Aishwarya Rai had said that she could not understand why there was a fuss on her outfit as she was a judge there, which is a bigger thing. She had stated:
“Initially I couldn’t understand what the big hullabaloo was about. So, I never expected such a big media moment out of what you were wearing. Because I was really there as a jury member which was so much bigger a purpose and so much more important, so much more exciting and impactful. I was like seriously, is this what you guys are focussing on?”
In between the chat, Junior Bachchan stated that he was friends with Aishwarya Rai at that time and they were co-stars too and the controversy had made him upset. Moreover, now, Abhishek Bachchan is a husband, too, he gets upset when people ask Aishwarya for her fashion style, making the Aishwarya wife remark, “Awww.” Abhishek had mentioned:
“Before we were married, we were working on several films together. It was the first year that she was invited as a jury member. And there was this huge uproar in the media about how she was dressed. And it’s really sad as a friend, which we were at that point in time. We were co-stars and we were friends. It upset me. Over the years, you see it happen every year. Now, as a husband, it upsets me.”
Abhishek said that she looked ‘damn hot.’ The actor had also remembered actress Penelope Cruz’s response to Aishwarya’s dress as she had applauded her saying ‘you are so beautiful.’ He had also called the criticism ridiculous. Aishwarya Rai had gone to the Cannes Film Festival in 2002 for to promote her film Devdas.
