Actor-turned-entrepreneur Vivek Oberoi, known for his versatile roles in Bollywood and his ventures in business, recently opened up about a pivotal moment in his personal life. Following his highly publicized breakup with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Oberoi revealed that he was initially reluctant to marry. However, it was his mother’s persistence that eventually led him to meet his now-wife, Priyanka Alva, marking a significant turning point in his life.
In a candid conversation with Curly Tales, Oberoi shared his initial hesitation towards marriage after his split with Aishwarya Rai. “I didn’t want to get married; I was partying away. I was like, no serious relationships—it’s too much stress, too many complications,” he explained. Oberoi mentioned that he felt content with the love and affection he received from his nieces and nephews, which made him question the need for marriage. “So, I was like, why get married?” he added.
The story took a different turn when Oberoi’s mother intervened. She urged him to meet one last girl before dismissing the idea of marriage entirely. Recounting the conversation, Oberoi said, “My mom said, ‘Meet this one girl, and if you don’t like her, you can say no. After that, I will never tell you to meet anybody else, but meet this one.'”
Oberoi and Aishwarya Rai’s relationship had blossomed during the shooting of the 2004 film “Kyun! Ho Gaya Na,” but the couple parted ways after a brief period of dating. Following the breakup, Oberoi’s resolve to stay single was strong until his mother’s suggestion to meet Priyanka Alva, the daughter of the late Karnataka minister Jeevaraj Alva and renowned dancer Nandini Alva.
Oberoi’s aunt had first met Priyanka and was impressed, suggesting that Oberoi should meet her. At the time, Priyanka was in New York pursuing her MBA. Oberoi recalled seeing her picture and feeling an immediate attraction. “She is quite pretty,” he admitted, adding that his mother’s insistence led to the meeting that would change his life.
Vivek Oberoi and Priyanka Alva tied the knot in 2010 and have since built a family together, with two children—Vivaan Veer and Ameya Nirvana. The actor frequently shares moments from his family life on social media, offering glimpses into their happy life together.
