Bollywood actress Kriti Sanon has experienced a remarkable turnaround in her career following a disappointing 2023, marked by a string of box-office flops. The actress’s fortunes shifted dramatically in 2024, with both of her releases this year—Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya and Crew—emerging as significant successes.
Crew, a heist comedy featuring Sanon alongside esteemed actors Tabu and Kareena Kapoor Khan, has quickly climbed the charts to become the third highest-grossing Hindi film of 2024. Meanwhile, the science-fiction romantic comedy Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, co-starring Shahid Kapoor, secured the fourth position at the box office. Building on this momentum, Sanon is now gearing up for the release of her third film of the year, Do Patti, directed by Shashanka Chaturvedi.
In Do Patti, Kriti takes on a dual role, sharing the screen with acclaimed actress Kajol, who also plays a significant character in the thriller. As part of the promotional campaign, both actresses appeared on The Indian Express’ Expresso, where they discussed the film, their journeys in the industry, and the unifying power of laughter. Kriti reflected on her experience as an outsider in Bollywood, revealing that it took her years and numerous projects to carve out her own identity in an industry often dominated by established families.
“I didn’t take that many years to get my first break, but I was often introduced as ‘Tiger Shroff’s heroine,'” she noted, recalling their shared debut in the 2014 romantic action film Heropanti. While Shroff was already recognized as the son of veteran actor Jackie Shroff, Kriti was relatively unknown, appearing only in a single Telugu film before her Bollywood debut.
“For a while, people referred to me as ‘the one who appeared in Tiger Shroff’s movie.’ As someone outside the industry, it took longer for me to establish my identity,” she said, adding that it was the film Bareilly Ki Barfi that marked a turning point in her career, allowing audiences to recognize her for her talent rather than her associations.
Do Patti, which also stars Shaheer Sheikh, Tanvi Azmi, Brijendra Kala, Vivek Mushran, and Prachee Shah Paandya, is penned by Kanika Dhillon, who co-produced the film with Kriti. The film is set to premiere on Netflix on October 25, promising to elevate Sanon’s rising status in Bollywood further.
