Actress Surveen Chawla has opened about facing ‘a lot’ of casting couch experience in the south Indian Film Industry. the actress had entered the world of entertainment with the TV show ‘Kahin Toh Hoga’ in the year 2003 and then went on to star in movies like ‘Hate Story 2’. Before making her film debut, Surveen has worked in hit shows like Kasautii Zindagi Kay (2004), Kaajjal (2006), and Ek Khiladi Ek Haseena (2008). She even hosted Comedy Circus Ke Superstars. In a new interaction, she has now revealed that she was told she would not get roles as she weighed 56 kilos.

The actress in her recent interview has opened about facing the casting couch and body shamming in work meetings in Mumbai.

In an interaction with RJ Siddharth Kannan that was quoted by Hindustan Times, when asked if she had to face a comment where she was body-shamed and denied roles, Surveen replied, “Ya this was actually my first film meeting in Bombay that I went for. So I was doing television and then I went for this first meeting. You know it’s their job to kind of get you in the space where you question yourself. And this happens to most women also where their appearance is questioned, their weight is questioned, what is your waist size is questioned, what is your chest size is questioned.”

Surveen went on to add that “It’s just insane,” stating that she questions the parameters for being there.

Surveen added, “It was a period where it, alongside all the casting couch that went on with it and then a lot from the south (film industry) actually and it was quite a difficult period…It was there but I don’t think those are not the right parameters that define you or make you believe or disbelieve on where you want to be or where you are at.”

On the work front, she will next be seen in the Netflix series Decoupled alongside R Madhavan that will release on Netflix on December 17.
