Ibrahim Ali Khan’s debut film Naadaniyaan faced strong criticism from both audiences and critics alike. Despite starring alongside Khushi Kapoor, the film was met with backlash, particularly for its “cringe-worthy” dialogues and underwhelming performances. Recently, in an interview, veteran actress and his grandmother, Sharmila Tagore, shared her candid thoughts on the film.
In an interview with AnandabazarPatrika.com on their YouTube channel, Sharmila Tagore addressed the criticism her film had received from reviewers. She candidly admitted that the project fell short of expectations. The veteran actress also spoke fondly of her grandchildren, Sara Ali Khan and Ibrahim Ali Khan, praising their efforts in carving out their own paths in the film industry. While acknowledging that Ibrahim’s debut film wasn’t particularly strong, she noted that he gave it his best. She was quoted as saying:
“Sara and Ibrahim are doing a wonderful job. Ibrahim’s film was not good, but he still looks very handsome. He has tried his best. These things shouldn’t really be said in front of everyone, but honestly, the picture isn’t great. Ultimately, the picture has to be good.”

In the same conversation, Sharmila Tagore also spoke about her granddaughter, Sara Ali Khan. She praised Sara for her dedication and strong work ethic, expressing admiration for the young actress’s commitment to her craft. Sharmila went on to say that Sara has the potential to do much more and believes that, in time, she will fully realize it. She was quoted saying: “Sara is a good actress. She works very hard and is capable of doing a lot more. She’ll also achieve that.”

In an interview with Nayandeep Rakshit, Soha Ali Khan, Ibrahim Ali Khan’s aunt, was asked if she had ever given him any advice after he faced trolling for his performance in Nadaaniyan. The actress shared that she had given her nephew two key pieces of advice to protect himself from the trolls, one of which was to develop a thicker skin. Soha also opened up about how she reacted to the criticism Ibrahim faced, both for his performance and his appearance, responding with:
“Number one, I think you need to have thick skin when you join this world. One needs to digest people’s opinions or then don’t read the comments. But, I feel, sometimes, it’s important to read the comments because you can’t just work in a vacuum. You have to be receptive to certain criticism, and you have to work on your craft and go forward.”
