Ranbir Kapoor’s ‘First Wife’ Isn’t Alia Bhatt! Actor Reveals, ‘A Girl Came With Pandit and Married My Gate’

Bollywood charming actor Ranbir Kapoor recently shared one of the wildest fan encounters of his life. He revealed that a devoted fan went as far as marrying the gate of his bungalow! The actor is enjoying a blissful life with his wife, Alia Bhatt, their daughter, Raha, and his mother, Neetu Kapoor. Ranbir and Alia began dating in April 2018 and tied the knot in April 2022. However, in a surprising revelation, Ranbir joked about having a ‘first wife’ whom he had never met. He did have a fairytale wedding with Alia, but in a de ulu world, she is not his first wife.

Ranbir Kapoor enjoys a massive global fanbase, with admirers willing to go to great lengths just to catch a glimpse of him. In a recent interview with Mashable India, the actor recounted a surprising incident where a woman arrived at his family’s bungalow with a priest and performed a wedding ceremony, marrying the gate of his home. Ranbir humorously added that he is still waiting to meet his ‘first wife.’ He shared:

“I wouldn’t say craziest as it is used in a negative way but I remember when I started like in early years. There was a girl and I never met her but my watchman told me that she came with a pandit and married my gate. At the bungalow I used to live with my parents and there was some tika on the gate and some flowers. I was out of town at that time I think so that was quite crazy. I haven’t yet met my first wife yet so I look forward to meeting you at some point.”

Alia had a childhood crush on Ranbir, which began when she was just 11 years old after seeing him work as an assistant director on Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s film Black. In 2014, when Alia made her Bollywood debut, she openly expressed her desire to marry Ranbir during an interaction on Koffee With Karan. At the time, Ranbir was on the show promoting Highway alongside her. She later shared a moment from when they were on a flight together while heading for the shoot of Brahmāstra, recalling the experience.

“When I was single after a very long time, everyone around me, my sis and friends said you and he (Ranbir) are going to be together. We talked about it on our flight. We were seated together and then something went wrong with his seat. Later his seat got fixed and when we exchanged notes. The vibe started there only and the rest is history.”

At a press event, Ranbir once shared one of his iconic, upbeat dialogues from Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. Reflecting on marriage after tying the knot with Alia, he humorously compared it to eating dal chawal for the rest of his life. In his words: “I said this in a film that “Shaadi is Dal Chawal for 50 years till you die..etc. But Boss, in life, Dal Chawal is the best, there’s nothing else better than that. And in my life, Alia is all the spices, pickles, everything in the Dal rice. And I couldn’t have asked for a better partner in my life.”
