Ranbir Kapoor’s portrayal of the troubled musician Jordan in Imtiaz Ali’s 2011 film Rockstar remains one of his most iconic performances to date. Recently, a rare behind-the-scenes (BTS) clip from the set of the film has surfaced online, offering fans a glimpse into the actor’s process. The clip, which shows Ranbir singing a version of the song “Jo Bhi Main” from the film’s soundtrack, has sparked both amusement and admiration among fans.
The video was shared on Instagram by the page Yourpopculturedose and quickly gained traction. In the clip, Ranbir, dressed as his character Jordan, can be seen surrounded by crew members holding cameras and lighting equipment. Director Imtiaz Ali is also present, giving instructions to the actor. As Ranbir strums a guitar and sings “Jo Bhi Main” loudly, it becomes clear that singing is not his strongest suit, leading to a wave of humorous comments from fans.

The reactions to the clip were both entertaining and varied. One fan jokingly commented, “How can I unsee this?” while another quipped, quoting a line from the song “Nadaan Parinde,” “Ye sunke nadan parinde ghar se bhag gaye!” The humor continued with comments like, “I feel so sad for sound dada right now,” and “This is exactly how I sound.” Another fan playfully remarked, “Barbaad kare alfaaz mere (My words are ruining it) got real.”
However, not all reactions were light-hearted. Many fans rushed to defend the actor, emphasizing that his primary role was to act, not sing. One fan wrote, “As an actor, he executed the scene flawlessly, despite not knowing how to sing. It’s impressive both then and now. Thanks for sharing the behind-the-scenes footage.” Another added, “He does this, that’s why he looked so real when we watched this. He literally does the best lip-sync in Bollywood.”
Ranbir Kapoor’s performance in Rockstar earned him widespread acclaim and several awards. The film’s music, composed by AR Rahman, featured most songs sung by Mohit Chauhan, who provided the singing voice for Ranbir’s character.
Ranbir was last seen in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s Animal, with a sequel titled Animal Park already in development. The actor is also set to star in Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayan and Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Love & War.
