Diljit’s Emotional Tribute to His Mother

During the Manchester concert, Diljit took a heartfelt moment to introduce his mother, Sukhwinder Kaur, to the audience. While performing his popular song Hass Hass, he sang the lines, “Dil tenu de ditta main taan soneya, Jaan tere kadma ch rakhi hoyi ae,” which roughly translates to, “I have given myself to you, I have placed my life at your feet.” As he sang, he turned the spotlight on his mother, revealing the inspiration behind the song’s emotional lyrics.

This touching moment allowed fans to connect with Diljit on a deeper level, as he shared a rare glimpse into his personal life. The introduction of his mother was a significant shift for the singer, who has long kept his family out of the public eye.

A Strained Relationship Revealed

Earlier this year, Diljit opened up about his family dynamics in an interview with Ranveer Allahbadia for his podcast. The singer revealed that his relationship with his family had been strained due to a decision made by his parents when he was young. Diljit explained that at the age of eleven, he was sent to live with his maternal uncle (mamaji), leaving behind his hometown for the city of Ludhiana.

Reflecting on this time, Diljit said, “My parents responded, ‘Yes, take him,’ when my uncle asked them to send me to the city with him. Not even my folks asked me.” The experience of leaving home at such a young age deeply impacted Diljit, and he has been open about the complexities of his relationship with his family ever since.

By introducing his mother during his concert, Diljit appears to be reconciling with his past and embracing the opportunity to publicly celebrate his family, a significant departure from his usual private nature.
