Actors Patralekhaa and Rajkummar Rao, who have been married for nearly three years, recently shared a glimpse into the early days of their relationship. The couple, who dated for a decade before tying the knot, first met on the set of a music video, but their initial encounter wasn’t what one might expect.
In a candid interview with Humans of Bombay, Patralekhaa revealed that her first impression of Rajkummar was far from romantic. She admitted to being “very scared” of him after watching his 2010 film Love Sex Aur Dhokha (LSD), where he portrayed a rather unsettling character. “I had just seen LSD, his first film. About three days later, a school friend of mine asked me to do a music video with him. I remember saying, ‘No, I’m not coming because I think he’s very creepy, and I was scared,'” she recalled.
Despite her reservations, Patralekhaa agreed to go along after some persuasion, even bringing her sister for support. She said, “I made my sister sit between me and Raj, and they started chatting. I was feeling weird because, to me, he was that creepy guy from the movie. I kept pinching her, telling her not to talk to him.”
As the long car ride from Mumbai to Pune progressed, Patralekhaa found herself warming up to Rajkummar. A simple conversation about their work marked a shift in her perception. “He asked what I do, and when I mentioned my ad work, I noticed a change in him. As the story goes, he had seen that particular ad and thought, ‘I want to marry this girl,’” she said with a smile.
During the three-day music video shoot, Patralekhaa discovered Rajkummar’s dedication to his craft. She was struck by his passion and commitment to his work, which she described as “such a rarity.” It wasn’t long before she found herself falling for him. “I just couldn’t stop falling in love with him,” she added.
Following their first meeting in 2010, the two began dating and went on to work together in the 2014 film CityLights. After a decade-long relationship, the couple finally tied the knot on November 15, 2021.
