Actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut was visibly moved by the posthumous awarding of the Kirti Chakra to Captain Anshuman Singh, which was accepted by his widow, Smriti Singh. The emotional moment took place during the Defence Investiture Ceremony (Phase-1) held at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi.

Kangana took to Instagram Stories to share a poignant picture from the ceremony, capturing Smriti Singh, the young widow of Captain Anshuman Singh, alongside his mother, as they received the gallantry award. In her heartfelt note, Kangana expressed the emotional weight of the moment and reflected on the complexities of love.

“Many soldiers who gave their lives for the nation were awarded yesterday,” Kangana wrote. “People are in tears to see the very young, dainty, and exceptionally beautiful widow of Officer Anshuman Singh from Purvanchal.”

Kangana continued, “She is still hopelessly in love with her husband, says with tears rolling down her face that she will die a painful death with brass in her chest. Her lips are a stab in my heart. Love is not easy; the paradox is nothing is more cruel than love.”

President Murmu Honours Captain Anshuman Singh

On Friday, President Droupadi Murmu conferred the Kirti Chakra (posthumously) upon Captain Anshuman Singh for his courageous actions that saved the life of a fellow army personnel during a fire incident. Captain Anshuman Singh, a doctor with the Army Medical Corps, 26th Battalion, the Punjab Regiment, was awarded for his “exceptional bravery and resolve to rescue many people in a major fire incident.” The Kirti Chakra is India’s second-highest peacetime gallantry award.

In July 2023, a short circuit sparked a fire in an Indian Army ammunition dump at Siachen around 3 a.m. Captain Anshuman Singh bravely rescued individuals trapped inside a fibreglass hut near the dump as it ignited. He also endeavoured to retrieve essential medicines from a nearby medical investigation shelter threatened by the fire. Tragically, he sustained severe burns in the process and passed away shortly afterwards.

The ceremony highlighted not only the bravery of Captain Anshuman Singh but also the enduring grief and strength of his loved ones, leaving a lasting impact on those present, including Kangana Ranaut.
