Actor and social media personality Kusha Kapila recently shared her distressing experience from a roast event, revealing that the jokes made about her body and her divorce from Zorawar Singh Ahluwalia were dehumanizing and shockingly unkind. Kapila disclosed that these jokes were not shared with her prior to the roast, leaving her unprepared for the harshness she faced.

In the aftermath, Kapila took to Instagram Stories on Tuesday, posting a message about resilience and self-worth. “When someone’s trying to disempower you, it’s their garbage. It’s not yours to store. Let it slide off you,” she wrote.

This statement followed her emotional disclosure about enduring comedian Ashish Solanki’s “Pretty Good Roast Show,” which was filmed in January and recently released on YouTube.

Kusha Kapila participated in the show alongside stand-up comedians such as Samay Raina, Aaditya Kulshreshth, Shreya Priyam Roy, and Gurleen Pannu. However, it was Raina’s jokes that she found particularly offensive. In response to online criticism questioning why she tolerated such remarks, Kapila posted a detailed account explaining her decision and the ensuing fallout.

Statement Issued By Actor

“I had no idea what was in store for me,” she confessed. “Maybe I should have asked for a script and known better, but since friends were involved, I didn’t. Rookie mistake.” She described her discomfort during the roast, saying, “While I endured some of the really raspy jokes in front of a live audience and technicians, I absolutely was not okay for it to play for millions of people since some jokes straight up dehumanised me. It was shockingly unkind.”

Kapila further elaborated that her episode, the first to be shot, provided learning experiences for future episodes, which subsequently avoided crossing similar boundaries, especially with women.

Personal Life

The roast included jibes about Kapila’s recent weight loss and her past marriage to Zorawar Singh Ahluwalia, whom she married in 2017 and separated from in June 2023. One of the more offensive jokes made by Raina referred to Kapila as a “gold-digger” and mockingly suggested her pet dog be given to her ex-husband.

As the controversy unfolds, Kapila’s fans and followers continue to rally in support, condemning the roast’s insensitivity and the broader implications of such public humiliation.
