Renowned Indian vocalist Kumar Sanu has vehemently denied allegations that he participated in a concert and sang in support of Pakistan’s former Prime Minister, Imran Khan. The singer addressed these claims after a video circulating on social media platforms, including Facebook and X (formerly Twitter), purportedly showed him performing a song advocating for Khan’s freedom.

The video, which appears to have been taken at one of Sanu’s concerts, features a voice singing lyrics in support of Imran Khan, including lines such as, “Imran Khan ko azaad karaenge, wazir azam banayenge. Zulm ke khilaaf awaaz uthayenge, naya Pakistan hum banayenge,” which translates to, “We will free Imran Khan and make him the Prime Minister. We will raise our voices against injustice and form a new Pakistan.”

However, on Sunday, Kumar Sanu took to Instagram to clarify the situation, sharing a screengrab from the Press Trust of India (PTI) that debunked the video as a hoax. In his post, Sanu stated unequivocally, “I want to clarify that I have never sung any song for Pakistan’s former Prime Minister. The audio circulating on Facebook is not my voice—it has been created using AI. Some people are trying to defame me, and that’s why I want to tell my fans that this news is fake, a lie!”

The singer also expressed concern over the misuse of artificial intelligence and deepfake technology, calling for immediate government intervention. “This is a serious misuse of technology, and I urge the Government of India to take immediate action to prevent the abuse of AI and deepfake technology. Let’s stop the spread of misinformation,” Sanu added.

Kumar Sanu, who has had a prolific career since the late 1980s, is celebrated for his contributions to Indian music across multiple languages. He is best known for iconic hits like “Chura Ke Dil Mera” from Main Khiladi Tu Anari and “Ladki Badi Anjani Hai” from Kuch Kuch Hota Hai.
