Legendary Indian actor Amitabh Bachchan, known for his five-decade-long career in cinema, recently shared a heartwarming moment on his popular TV show Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC). Bachchan, who is currently hosting the 16th season of the quiz show, opened up about his personal life and expressed his admiration for his wife, Jaya Bachchan, during an interaction with a contestant.
In a recent episode, a contestant asked the veteran actor if his hectic schedule, which includes shooting for films and hosting KBC, left him with enough time to spend at home with his wife, Jaya, who is also a politician. Responding to the question, Bachchan candidly praised Jaya’s unwavering commitment to their family.
The contestant, Sumitra Dinesh, asked whether Jaya Bachchan ever complained about not spending enough time with her husband due to his busy schedule. In response, Amitabh Bachchan said, “Oh, what can I say? People ask me about family issues when they come here, it hurts me a lot.” He then shared that, at one point in his career, he was shooting for three films simultaneously, working in different shifts, which left him with very little time for his family.
Despite this demanding schedule, Bachchan praised Jaya for her understanding and dedication to their children, Shweta and Abhishek. He said, “Jaya was always supportive and never complained,” highlighting her role in raising their children while he was frequently away for work. The couple, who married in June 1973, have now been together for over 40 years.
Reflecting further, Bachchan recalled a conversation with his father, renowned poet Harivansh Rai Bachchan, who once commented on his son’s relentless work ethic. “He said, ‘Son, you work a lot.’ I replied, ‘Father, money is very difficult to earn.’”
Bachchan, whose latest film appearance was in Kalki 2898 AD, continues to balance his commitments, including hosting KBC, much to the admiration of his fans and peers alike.
