Bollywood actor Kajol, known for her candid remarks, recently opened up about the pressures of social media and the scrutiny public figures face. In an interview with The Indian Express, Kajol discussed how she navigates the harsh realities of online trolling, emphasizing the disconnect between social media and real life.
Reflecting on her late entry into the digital world, Kajol said, “I am thankful that I lived a whole life without social media. I only got on social media six years ago. Also, it is not real life. You’ll see my photo on the red carpet, but you won’t see that I woke up at 5 am to get ready, came back at 11.30 pm exhausted, and the next morning, I’m back to work. You are just seeing a snapshot of it. The reality is that we work as hard as everyone else; we have good and bad days, and yet, when you post, you’re smiling.”
Despite her personal views, the actor acknowledged that criticism comes with the territory of being a celebrity. “When people love you so much, they also feel they have the right to hate you that much. So, I won’t say that they are right, but as public figures, we have to deal with that,” she added.
Facing the Trolls
Kajol has faced her share of online backlash, with one notable incident occurring during the promotion of her debut web series, The Trial. Last year, the actor sparked controversy with comments about political leadership, saying that many leaders today “do not have an educational system background.”
The statement triggered outrage, prompting Kajol to clarify her position. She explained that she intended to highlight the importance of education and not to criticize political figures. “My intention was not to demean any political leaders. We have some great leaders who are guiding the country on the right path,” she said in her clarification.
Looking Ahead
Kajol’s upcoming projects include Do Patti, Maharagni, and Sarzameen. She was last seen in Netflix’s Lust Stories 2, where she starred in a segment of the popular anthology series.
