Actress and politician Jaya Prada is facing legal trouble that has led to her being sent to jail. A Chennai court recently gave her a six-month prison sentence and a Rs. 5000 fine in a case involving fraud related to ESI Funds. Her business associates Ram Kumar and Raja Babu also share the same charges.

How did Jaya Prada end up in jail?

Jaya Prada co-owned a theater in Chennai that had to close down. Following the shutdown, the theater employees accused Jaya Prada of withholding their deducted Employees’ State Insurance (ESI) contributions from their salaries. They also alleged that the theater management had not forwarded the ESI funds to the Government Insurance Corporation.

Subsequently, the Labour Government Insurance Corporation filed a case against Jaya Prada and her associates in the Egmore Magistrate Court in Chennai. Jaya Prada acknowledged the fraud and pledged to settle the outstanding amounts, seeking the dismissal of the case. Unfortunately, the court rejected her plea and imposed penalties on her.

Meanwhile, Jaya recently shared an incident from a challenging day on set when she was pushed to her limits, leading her to tears. The incident took place during the shooting of a song for D Ramanaidu’s film “Agni Poolu.” Recollecting the experience to Doordarshan, she said, “I was unwell during rehearsals, battling a 103-degree fever. The choreographer was very strict. Despite being just five minutes late, he punished me by making me stand on one leg for half an hour. I couldn’t help but cry due to my ill health.”
