Indian Idol 12 has been hitting the headlines for all the wrong reasons for the past few weeks. For the uninitiated, let us give you a quick recap of what exactly went wrong that the show is at the receiving end of criticism lately. The show recently saw an episode where the judges of the show Himesh Reshammiya, Neha Kakkar, Anu Malik and the rest of the contestants paid tribute to the legendary singer Ashok Kumar but the netizens felt that they were not doing justice to the singer’s legacy. But what added fuel to the fire was Ashok Kumar’s son Amit Kumar’s shocking revelations.

Amit Kumar who was invited to the show as a guest revealed that he disliked the episode so much that he wanted to stop it midway. He also revealed that he was told to praise the contestants. Now after Amit Kumar, Indian Idol season 1 winner Abhijeet Sawant called out the makers of the show.

In a recent interview with Aaj Tak, Abhijeet revealed that he feels that now the makers are more interested in selling tragic stories rather than focussing on music. He was quoted as saying, “These days, the makers are more interested in whether the participant can polish shoes or how poor he is, rather than his talent. You should watch regional reality shows where viewers may not know anything about the background of their favourite contestants. Their focus is only on singing, but in Hindi reality shows, the tragic and sad stories of contestants are shown. The focus is only on that.”
