“I’m Still Figuring It Out”: Deepika Padukone Opens Up About Experiencing ‘Mom Guilt’ While Returning to Work
Recently, at the Forbes Summit in Abu Dhabi, Bollywood star Deepika Padukone opened up about adjusting to life after welcoming her daughter, Dua, with husband Ranveer Singh in September 2024. The new mommy candidly shared her experiences, including the challenges of balancing motherhood and the inevitable ‘mom guilt’ that comes with it.

Deepika recently attended the prestigious Forbes 30/50 Global Summit in Abu Dhabi, turning heads in a stunning golden ensemble paired with bold black boots. Radiating elegance and confidence, she captivated the audience while sharing her journey. When asked whether motherhood has influenced her choice of roles, Deepika responded without hesitation:
“Yes, I think motherhood in itself has been so incredible that I’m sure somewhere, if not consciously, subconsciously it will influence the kind of movies and the roles that I choose to do moving forward. Having said that, I do believe that I’ve been pretty aware and conscious even before motherhood.”
As a new mother, Deepika can’t help but feel guilty as she slowly returns to work. She reaches out to fellow mothers for advice on coping with the emotions, admitting that she is still navigating this new phase. She was heard saying: “I think where I’m at in my life right now is how do I manage my time as a mother, as a new mother, with getting back to–and I’m sure there are some incredible women here who can give me some wise, some wisdom, whatever, but to be able to manage my daughter and her life and getting back to work without feeling guilt. I think that is something I’m figuring out. I won’t say I am struggling with it, but I’m still figuring it out.”

Deepika and Ranveer embraced parenthood with the arrival of their baby girl on September 8, 2024. During Diwali, they announced her name, Dua Padukone Singh, sharing that it symbolized the answer to their prayers. Following Dua’s birth, Deepika took a break to embrace motherhood and adjust to her new role. Now, the Pathaan actress is gradually returning to the spotlight. In recent months, she has captivated audiences with her stunning appearances at various fashion events.
During her recent visit to Abu Dhabi for the Forbes Summit, Deepika dazzled in a golden Sabyasachi Mukherjee dress, paired with bold high-heeled boots. Her husband, Ranveer, couldn’t help but admire her look, reacting to her Instagram photos with a playful “phew!” and a hot face emoji, once again proving he’s her biggest cheerleader.
On the work front, Deepika is preparing to begin filming for the much-anticipated sequel to Kalki 2898 AD, alongside Prabhas and Amitabh Bachchan. She is also set to feature in Pathaan 2 with Shah Rukh Khan and the Hindi remake of The Intern. Additionally, there is strong speculation about her potential cameo in Rajamouli’s SSMB29.
